Driver gets prison for killing birthday girl in drunken crash
Surviving family and friends of a student killed in a drunken car crash while celebrating her 21st birthday turned out in droves Wednesday to watch a Manhattan judge sentence the driver to four to 12 years in prison.
“I am completely heartbroken, I no longer have a sister, I am ready to die at this point,” Amanda Miner’s older sibling, Linda, said through tears as Stefan Hoyte looked on from the defense table. “I just want to be with my sister.”
Hoyte, a former NYPD traffic agent, had guzzled eight shots of vodka and two mixed drinks before hopping behind the wheel of his 2013 Infinity G37 to drive the newly 21-year-old home after a night of partying in March 2017.
